Steel Profiles definition

The Profiles definition dialog is used to define all the profiles needed within the current project for main girder or structural member of cross-frame/stiffener.

On the top of the dialog there are two options in order to selected profile type (Profile type) and name (Profile ID).The Profile type provides a list of standard shapes: I-shaped, L-shaped, T-shaped, Channels, Hollow and rectangular sections. Once it’s selected, the Profile ID is filled with a categorized list of common profiles from US or Europe. Below you can find and accurate description of available profiles.

I-Rolled (I-shaped cross-section).

European

  • HE - European wide flange beams which includes HEA, HEB, HEM steel profiles : have parallel flange surfaces and approximate equal width and depth 100-1000(mm).According to Euro norm 53-62, Tolerances: EN10034:1993.
  • IPE - European steel I-beams have parallel flange surfaces and height 80-600(mm): according to Euro norm 19-57; Tolerances: EN10034:1993.
  • IPN - European standard beams (I-shaped cross-section) have a slope 14% on the inner flange surfaces and range of height 80-600(mm).

American

Values are presented in either Imperial (inch-pound) units or SI (metric) units according to ASTM A6/A6M.

  • S - American Standard Beam (I-shaped cross-section) has a slope on the inner flange surfaces.
  • HP - Bearing Pile (H-shaped cross-section) have parallel flange surfaces and equal web and flange thicknesses.
  • W-wide flange steel beams (I-shaped cross-section) have parallel flange surfaces.

U-Profile (channels)

European

  • UPE- European channel with parallel flanges have depth 80-400(mm). Dimensions: DIN 1026-2:2002-10; Tolerance: EN 10279:2000.
  • UNP- European channels with taper flanges have depth 80-400(mm). Dimensions: DIN 1026-1; 2000. Tolerance: EN 10279:2000.
  • U - European channels with taper flange have depth 40-65(mm).Tolerance: EN 10279:2000.

American

Values are presented in either Imperial (inch-pound) units or SI (metric) units according to ASTM A6/A6M.

  • C - American Standard Channels have a slope on the inner flange surfaces.

L-Profile (L-shaped cross-section)

European

  • Equal and unequal leg angles. Dimensions: EN 10056-1:1998.

American

  • L - Shapes are equal leg and unequal leg angles.

C-Pipe (Structural hollow sections)

Hot finished circular sections. Dimensions:  EN10210 S355J2H.Outside diameter smaller than 200 mm.

These sections are standard sections, and although you cannot add a new type, you can add, delete, or modify an item in the right side Profiles list using the buttons situated on the bottom part of the screen in order to meet the project needs. Note that each profile name (ID) cannot be added twice into list of available profiles in order to avoid inconsistencies. Moreover, once added into list, the name of profile can’t be modified, less its parameters.

Using Customize option the parameters fields become active and you will be able to input your own dimensions and ID for the selected profile type. The name must not correspond to that of an existing standard profile if you decide to use this option.

For I–shaped sections Symmetric option is available to ease the input of profile parameters – changing the top values will update the bottom ones automatically, if option is unchecked the rest of the fields for the bottom part of the section are enabled. This will allow different dimensions for the upper and lower flanges.

After the new dimensions and ID are entered just click Add and the user-defined profile is introduced in the profiles list. For these kind of profiles modify option becomes active and when needed new changes can be applied to an existing profile in the list.
